The General (REVAMPED villain idea)
REVAMPED Version:
Here's one for you DM's that want your big bad to have an army behind them.
Calculating, logistical, & commanding, this big bad has it all. The general uses their experience in the field of combat for their own ambitions & gains. You will usually find them with an army of loyal minions behind their back, at the beck & call of the generals whims. One things for sure about this villain, you won't be able to beat them easily, even if the general themselves are quite a pushover in a fight.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The General Archetypes
The Strategist: This master of war, has a plan & a back-up plan for that plan & a back-up back-up plan for that plan. The strategist knows exactly who, what & where things need to be done. They usually have the largest army of all general archetypes, due to their vast knowledge of logistics, troop moral, & engagement pre-planning. Thought they fail in actually being able to maintaining their power when it's out of direct control, so splinting up their troops is the advised strategy in dealing with this villain
The Warrior: This master of war, has a sword, fury & the will to slaughter all who oppose. The warrior knows the best way to fight in the field of battle. Their present on their own can increase the effectiveness & moral of all the troops around them. They fail in actual strategies against their enemies, which basically runs down to "hit them as hard as possible, as quickly as possible"
The Elite: This master of war, has some of the most skilled soldiers in the world. The elite has the elites of the world, as well as being amongst them. They lead from the loyalty of their fellow elites, as they do what they want with their vast amount of skills making it hard to stop them. They fail in numbers, with their army being far smaller than all other general archetypes
The Mercenary: This master of war, has the coin, the arms, & the men for pay that other's envy. The mercenary is a captain of a prestigious & well armed mercenary group. The soldiers are loyal to their pay checks, which the captain can happily pay & even raise if need be. The recommended way with dealing with this general archetype is to bribe the soldiers to turning against their master (though this will be a very costly endeavor.)
The Foolhardy: This "master of war", has the spirt to try to be the best general they can be. Thought spirt is about the only thing they have for them. They lack logistics to make sure their men are armed, feed, payed, & just general coordinated. They also tend to leave the field of battle quickly when things even seem to start to go against them!
